Our Staff at Academy of Knowledge

Meet the talented staff at Academy of Knowledge. Each and every one of our warm nurturing trained professionals bring something different and special to our center.

Charleston SC preschool director

Gaye Capers

Director

My name is Gaye Capers and I have a degree in Early Childhood Education with over 29 years experience. I have been blessed to hold many positions in the child care field and have enjoyed every one of them. For 26 years I worked for a large child care company and enjoyed it, but I wanted to be a part of a center that was small and more personable, one that made everyone feel that they are at a home away from home receiving an education. It was for that reason that I became a part of Academy of Knowledge, formerly Open Arms. As a director I enjoy meeting new families and having the chance to form special bonds with each of them. I am also able to help the teachers give the children an early start in early education and that by far is the most rewarding part of my job.  It is a blessing to love what you do and I don't take that blessing for granted. I believe that all children deserve an early start in education.

Yasmeen Muhammad

Toddlers

My name is Yasmeen Muhammad. I was born and raised in Charleston S.C. I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Columbia College. My passion is to teach and watch children grow and learn. I strongly believe in the motto, "It takes a village to raise a child". I am always trying to find ways to help children and their parents find ways for each child to succeed.

If I am not working with children then I am either reading or relaxing.

Julia King

Three/Fours

I love building a solid foundation in children.  Whenever I teach the kids something new it gives me the greatest feeling. Making a positive difference in the life of a child makes my day!

I enjoy watching TV (suspense & oldies), singing and occasionally curling up with a good book. I am married to my high school sweetheart Henry "Beau" King and am a 1981 University of South Carolina graduate.
